So good, way better than any packet you can buy. My non vegan husband prefers this to traditional gravy.
Great gravy! Made today for Thanksgiving. My husband who is not vegan but is on this journey by my side, also thought your mashed potato and gravy recipes were delicious. You were at our table with us! Happy Thanksgiving, Shane!
Thank you for the reminder to toast the flour a bit. It makes a big difference! Also, the touch of herbs was delicious- I ground in my mortar-and the nutritional yeast- I use it a lot in of other things but it is now mandatory in gravy, it adds so much flavor! Perfect recipe!
You did not oversell how good this gravy is! I’ll be making it frequently along with your mashed potato recipe!
I didn’t have veggie broth so I substituted canned organic full fat coconut milk with a little water later to thin out the gravy. It was delicious! Thank you!🥰
Nice. Way to make it work.
I also made this with homemade brown rice flour (I store it in the freezer) instead of the whole wheat flour and substituted homemade kinako powder for nutritional yeast and water for the broth and it turned out beautifully (very thick) in only a few moments. I served it with some frozen polenta slices that I had thawed out and heated on 350F for 20 minutes until they puffed up and became brown (almost like a fried texture). It was an amazing combo. Thank you so much for this recipe.
Thank you for helping me get ready for Thanksgiving dinners with all of these wonderful options. I’m switching from my transitional gravy this year that calls for 6 tablespoons of butter(!) to your lovely dairy-free recipe. I trust it will be as delicious as all of your recipes I’ve tried so far have been. Thank you!
We love this gravy. It’s easy and delicious!
Shane, your recipes never disappoint and this recipe is no exception! It was DELICIOUS! I was looking for a healthy gravy for Thanksgiving this year and this was a huge hit! I’m going to have to double (or even triple) the recipe next time to meet demand . Thank you 😊
Wow! Thanksgiving dinner was on the table and I realized I forgot the vegan gravy! This whipped up in minutes and was omg amazing and delicious. My fussy husband said it has to go in “the book.” My go-to gravy from now on.
That’s so great!!! Thank you!
I made this tonight to go with your ham and mashed potatoes. It was all delicious ! Thank you for saving Thanksgiving!
I have made several of your recipes and they are all great!
Thank you, Shane!
Great Vegan Brown Gravy recipe! I recently used up all of my dried rosemary in a homemade Herbs de Provence recipe I have. So I used 1/4 tsp of this instead (although it already has thyme in it as well as many other spices and I previously added the separate 1/4 Tsp of Thyme too.) I also added 1/4 Tsp of Ground White Pepper & some freshly ground Black Pepper.
I have been browsing & printing many of your other recipes to try out and add to (or replace) my Vgan recipes. Glad I found your website and will be back again! Blessings,
Thank you so much!!!
This is such a wonderful recipe! Tastes so decadent with wholesome ingredients!
Another Hit!!!
So simple and tasty. This was exactly what I was looking for! Thank you ❤️
My pleasure and I’m so glad you enjoyed it.
Love this recipe, tastes amazing! I’m going on a autoimmune protocol diet for a while, & I was wondering what I can substitute for flour please? I rely on your recipes for my everyday living/eating so your hep will be greatly appreciated!
Many thanks!
Ever tried freezing it in ice cube tray?
Yes, and it is awesome!!! 🙂
We love this gravy!! Every time we make it, which is often as it goes with a lot, it comes out perfect and we remark on how amazingly easy and delicious it is. I’ve taken to doubling the 3x recipe (dry ingredients only) and dividing by 6…..ending up with one batch to cook and 5 to put into lil containers. Then it’s just a matter of adding the tamari and broth to the powdered mix for a really fast gravy fix!
Love your recipes….thank you!
I stumbled on your website today looking for healthy vegan recipes. I just tried your gravy recipe and all I can say is “WOW!!” It is so good!! I look forward to trying your other recipes as well.
Hi, Tan! Thank you so much and I’m excited you are here!!!
Thanks for another great one Shane!! I use your recipes all the time and am so grateful I found your site! Merry Christmas!
It was awesome with everything for Thanksgiving!
Perfect, delicious recipe. Best vegan gravy I’ve made yet! I added some butter because apparently I think Thanksgiving needs to be as calorie laden as possible but it really didn’t need it.
Thanks, Jodi!
How far in advance can I make this? Trying to plan out and make as much as possible in advance of Thanksgiving since that’s my busiest time of my work year and I’ll have minimal time the day of. This looks super tasty! Thanks for all you do!
Hi, Emily! The gravy can be made 2-3 days in advance and stored in the fridge. You may have to add a little almond milk or veggie stock as it will thicken as it sits. But, I always make gravy the last thing and do it 30 minutes before the meal is serve. It’s just better fresh. And, it only takes about 5 minutes or so.
Oh my gosh this is sooo good I could eat it all by itself! I had some of your yummy mashed potatoes with it too, delish!
The only problem I had was that it was a little thick & lumpy, so I tossed it in the vitamix for about a minute and it was perfect!
Thanks so much for this awesome gravy!
Made this just now and it’s AMAZING! I substituted brown rice flour for the whole wheat flour because to me it has a milder flavor. Thank you for this recipe!
Gravy heaven! I am from the south where we take gravy seriously and this recipe does not disappoint! Hit it with some black pepper and ate it over steamed veggies! Would eat it over about anything!! Popcorn? Rice? Toast? It’s THAT good!
Joan, that is awesome! Thank you!
I love this recipe! Very delicious and great on mashed potatoes. I tried making it once with regular soy sauce and it was way to salty; when I followed the recipe and used low sodium it was perfect!
Use this gravy recipe all the time for my non-vegan family members. It’s a hit!!!! They always ask me to make it for them. I’m by no means a great cook but I’m deff excited to try some more of your recipes now!
I made the curry gravy again. This time I included the rosemary and thyme, and a quarter teaspoon of extra hot Kashmiri red pepper. It was phenomenal !
Shane, this is soooo good ! I’ve made it many times for mashed potatoes, and it never disappoints (even the carnivore guests love it LOL ), but tonight I tried something different : I added one Tablespoon of Madras curry powder to the dry ingredients (left out the rosemary and thyme) and served it over oven fries — chippy curry ! It was delicious !
Thank you and sounds amazing! Love hearing about the new things people try. It makes me excited.
I can’t stand nutritional yeast. Any subs or what if I just left out?
You can totally leave it out of the gravy and add an extra Tbsp. of flour.
flavor-wise, what would be the best substitution for the whole wheat flour, to make the gravy gluten free?
Oat flour or Bob’s Red Mill Gluten-free 1 to 1. Good luck!
Made this for a Shepherd’s Pie. Delicious! Will make it again for sure. Thanks!
Thank you very much for sharing this recipe! We had the gravy over some mashed potatoes- it was delicious! Also very quick and easy to make.
Thank you so much!!!
Absolutely delicious!
Thank you!
Tried it. Really flavorful! Easy, for sure!
Thank you!!!
WOW. This gravy recipe is simply THE BEST out there. I actually found this website by chance, and am so glad I did!!! The reviews were all so amazing, that I printed out four different recipes and used them for my Thanksgiving dinner this year – without trying them out first (and I was having the in-laws over too)! Everything was FANTASTIC!! Wow. I’m so glad I discovered your website. Thanks so much for making these recipes available to us all Shane!
Wow, Lindsay! That makes me so happy. Thank you for taking the time to reach out and let me know. And, thank you for rating it. I really appreciate it. Thanks for including me in your Thanksgiving plans. Blessings.
Delicious! I made this for Thanksgiving, everyone loved it. I used Bob Mills 1:1 GFree flour and it turned out fantastic! Pairs nicely with your cranberry sauce and cornbread stuffing! Thanks for sharing your amazing simple recipes Shane! Many blessings!!!
Thank you, DJ! And, blessings on you as well. Happy Holidays!
Wanted to make this today just to be sure it was good. This was SO super simple and delicious! I’ll be serving it on my vegan stuffing and mashed potatoes for Thanksgiving tomorrow. Great recipe! Having a quick gravy recipe on hand is a real treat. Thanks so much!
Kris, that is so great and I’m so glad you enjoyed it. Have a great Thanksgiving…with gravy:) Blessings.
Awesome. Put it on rice. Will be trying more of your recipes. Are you anywhere else besides Instagram? Scrambles tofu sounds good.

You’re welcome! Hope you enjoy.
Made this tonight. I used Einkorn flour and it was fantastic! Thanks for sharing!
Thank you, Anne! I’m so glad you liked it. Thanks for reaching out and sharing. Blessings.
This recipe is awesome! It did get a little thick when I cooked it to long but I just added some more almond milk and it thinned right back out. Great flavor- thank you for the recipe we used it in mashed potato bowls with sweet earth “ground beef” it was delicious!
Awww, thank you, Annie! I’m so glad you enjoyed it. If you get a chance, please star rate it. It really helps me with Google:) Thanks again!!!
I’d love to make this in a gluten free version. Have you experimented with another type of flour?
I haven’t but any flour should work.
Finally found a recipe that tastes nice ! I’ve made some that taste weird or wrong in some way but this one was great . Thankyou . The only change I made was making it gluten free by using a gluten free baking mix and tamari instead of soy sauce , worked wonderful .
Amanda, that’s so great! I’m excited it worked for you. Thanks for letting me know and pumped you liked it. Peace.
Excellent quick go-to for brown gravy, Nice and simple! And tasty! Thanks for sharing!
Jamie, thanks so much for the kind words. And, glad you liked the gravy. Blessings.
We had “meatloaf”, mashed potatoes and gravy for dinner – all from your site – thanks!
Made this Awesome gravy last evening and had it over vegan pierogies. Last minute life saver!
Thank you.
Thank you, Alicia! I’m so glad you liked it. And, I really appreciate you taking time to let me know. Blessings.
What if I don’t have wheat flour, can I use regular flour?
Yes, absolutely!
Finally!!! Thank you for saving the day. For Thanksgiving I made a different gravy and it looked beautiful but it was not good. I was about to give up on making gravy for Christmas dinner today but decided to give this a try. SO GOOD! I loved it, my husband loved it and my dad, who just went plant based 6 days ago loved it! Thank you for this recipe!
I ended up adding a bit more broth because I was taking it to my folks house and didn’t want it getting tonthick, and it was perfect. You can easily add more or less broth, to your liking.
Jenny, that is so great! I’m thrilled you all enjoyed it. Thank you so much for reaching out and sharing. Blessings!
I made this for Thanksgiving and we loved it. It’s the first gravy recipe we’ve found that we enjoy and we’ve made several. Thank you for sharing. It is a keeper!
That’s awesome, Deb! Thanks so much for sharing. Blessings.
Awesome gravy Shane, wishing now I didn’t wait so long to try it!
Thank you, Paulie. But, good things come to those who wait…or in my case procrastinate. ? Peace.
This tasted great! The only thing is that mine was too thick after it sat for a bit. Not sure if I cooked it too long or just need to add more liquid?
I would try and not cook it as long or simply add a little liquid at a time until you get the consistency you want. Good luck and so glad you enjoyed it.
Hi Shane. I’ve been making this gravy for a long time. we love it. GOing camping for a week. COuld I freeze it in a jar.?
Sure thing! Should do nicely.
Whisk in veggie brother? Lol. When do you add the soy sauce?
Eek! That doesn’t sound to appetizing. I just changed it. The soy sauce goes in with the veggie broth. I changed that as well. Thanks:)
This was awesome!
Wendy, thanks so much and pumped you enjoyed it! Blessings!
I can have gravy again!
