Why You Will Love This Recipe
These easy banana oatmeal chocolate chip cookies are guilt-free, require just four simple ingredients, and taste amazing!
- Super easy to make requiring just four simple ingredients
- They’re a great source of fiber, potassium, and vitamin C.
- No flour, egg replacers, or milk is required.
- gluten-free
- WFPB and oil-free
- Chewy, naturally sweetened, and rich in flavor
Ingredient Notes and Substitutions
- Bananas: be sure and use very ripe bananas. They’re soft so they’re easier to mash and much sweeter.
- Oats: old-fashioned rolled oats are my preference but you may use quick oats if that is all that’s available.
- Cocoa: I prefer raw cacao powder but you may use unsweetened cocoa powder is fine as well. If you’re not a fan of dark chocolate sub 1 teaspoon of cinnamon in place of the cocoa powder
- Dark Chocolate Chips: I like Enjoy Life mini chocolate chips. If you’re not a fan of dark chocolate dried cranberries or raisins or an excellent replacement.
How To Make Chocolate Banana Oatmeal Cookies
First things first, preheat your oven to 350°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
Next, place the bananas in a large mixing bowl and mash them with a fork or potato masher. Then, add the oats and cocoa powder and mix well.
Toss in the chocolate chips and stir until well combined and spoon equal size portions (roughly 1 heaping Tbsp) of the batter onto the baking sheet. I like to use a cookie scoop and then gently roll them out or flatten them before I bake.
Pop the pan in the oven and bake the cookies for 10 minutes. Rotate the pan and bake for 10 more minutes.
Remove the baking sheet from the oven and let the cookies cool for five minutes then serve and enjoy!
Variations and Serving Options
These chocolate banana oatmeal cookies are not only the easiest recipe you could make they’re also super versatile. Toss in some of these add-ins when making them.
- Chopped nuts are a great addition to the mixture. Pecans and walnuts are my favorite and a good source of protein and healthy fats.
- Serve as an afterschool snack for your kids along with a side of peanut butter for dipping. Watch them go crazy and get healthy at the same time.
- Throwing a party? Put these bites on a serving tray along with some cashew butter, almond butter, or sunflower seed butter for dipping. It makes a great presentation and creates a delicious and healthy dessert tray for your family and friends.
- Drizzle with my homemade chocolate ganache and sprinkle with some fancy flaky sea salt. Talk about fancy!
- Warming spices like cinnamon and cloves are great to add during winter holidays and special occasions. They give these cookies a nice little kick.
Can I Freeze Banana Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookies
Yes! Simply toss any leftover cookies into a freezer-safe container and store them for up to one month.
Storage
Leftover chocolate banana oatmeal cookies can be kept at room temperature in an airtight container for up to five days.
Tips
Be sure and use ripe bananas. Because there’s no sugar in this recipe the bananas also serve as the sweetener. The riper the banana, the sweeter the banana.
