Vegan pizza toast is easy to make and a great way to enjoy vegan pizza. Ready in just 5 minutes, it’s perfect for lunch, dinner, or a healthy after-school snack. Use any of your favorite pizza toppings!

Pizza toast has become our easy go-to snack and meal ever since Hailey Bieber posted it on TikTok. (No, I did not see it. My kids told me about it.) Her version was not vegan, but it was stupidly simple making it healthy and plant-based.

We simply used my homemade marinara sauce and cashew mozzarella cheese. And, now we’re addicted! How could you not be? It’s pizza on bread! I mean, who doesn’t love those two things and now they’re partners in the “making people happy” business?

Apart from being delicious, it’s so easy to make and versatile. There’s no pizza dough to prepare and you can top it with anything just like regular pizza. It even makes a delicious quick and easy breakfast for kids on the way out the door to school.

Serve it up with some delicious sides and turn it into an easy mid-week meal for the family. I promise, adults will love this just as much as children.

If you’re worried about presentation just swap out normal bread for some hoity-toity Hollywood fancy bread. But, in my house, people gonna get what I got in the pantry.

Are you ready? Let’s do this!

Why You Will Love Pizza Toast

  • Simple: Pizza toasts can be ready in as little as 5 minutes. You just toast, top, and broil!
  • Healthy: There’s no oil or fake ingredients in this recipe. You can even leave off my vegan mozzarella and pile it high with veggies.
  • Perfect for Kids: What kid doesn’t love pizza? They’ll not only love eating it, but it’s also a great way to get them involved in the kitchen with you. They can pick their own toppings, assemble the vegetables, and take ownership of their creation.
  • Versatile: You can top vegan pizza toast with any of your favorite toppings. So, it’s a great way to use up any vegetables you have in the fridge before they go bad.

Ingredients

  • Bread: sliced sourdough bread and good rustic whole-grain bread are my preference. But, use your favorite bread. Whole wheat English muffins are great!
  • Sauce: I prefer to use my homemade easy vegan marinara sauce. If you have the sauce pre-made this recipe is ready in just minutes. You could also use any oil-free store-bought sauce.
  • Cheese: my BEST Vegan Mozzarella was made for this recipe. And, it couldn’t be any more simple to whip up. You basically toss some cashews, nutritional yeast, lemon juice, apple cider vinegar, and a little tapioca flour into a blender and blend. Click here to see the full recipe!

How To Make Vegan Pizza Toast

Vegan pizza toast is about as simple as a recipe can get. It’s literally just toast, spread, top, and bake. Let’s make it!

  1. Toast each slice of bread using a toaster oven or a regular oven.
  2. Spread the pizza sauce on each piece of toast and top with my homemade vegan mozzarella cheese.
  3. Place in the oven underneath the broiler for 2-3 minutes just until the cheese slightly browns.
  4. Sprinkle with a bit of vegan parmesan, dried oregano, basil, or any other herb, and enjoy!

Now, wasn’t that easy?

More Topping Ideas

Vegan pizza toast is so incredibly versatile. There’s no limit to what you can do with it. Try some of these exciting toppings and sauces and create your own delicious combination.

  • BBQ sauce
  • Vegan Bacon Bits
  • Vegan Italian Sausage Crumbles
  • Vegan Parmesan
  • Chopped spinach
  • Fresh Herbs
  • Sun-dried tomatoes
  • Green peppers
  • Chopped red bell peppers
  • Small tomato slices
  • Sliced mushrooms
  • Pineapple (yes, it belongs on pizza)
  • Jalapeño (pairs perfectly with the pineapple)
  • Broccoli
  • Onion
  • Red Pepper Flakes
  • Vegan Pepperoni

How To Serve With Pizza Toast

There are a number of different ways to enjoy vegan pizza toast. It’s great by itself, but add a few sides and a salad and you’ve got a simple and hearty meal.

Let’s start with sauces. I love vegan ranch dressing on top of my pizza toast, but sometimes this vegan sriracha mayo is just what the doctor ordered.

If you want to turn this into a meal here are some great side dish ideas:

  • Crispy Vegan Hasselback Potatoes
  • Oil-free Oven Roasted Potatoes
  • Simple Apple Walnut Salad
  • Easy Roasted Asparagus

Notes and Tips

  • If using my homemade sauce it’s a good idea to have it pre-made and stored in the fridge. When you’re ready to use it just heat it in a small saucepan on the stovetop. You can totally use cold sauce but I prefer warm marinara sauce when making this recipe.
  • Wait until you have toasted the bread to make the vegan mozzarella. It’s best when it goes from pan to pizza.
  • Keep an eye on the pizza toast in the oven under the broiler. It doesn’t take long and before you know it, you’ve burnt your toast. No Bueno!

Vegan Pizza Toast FAQ

Is this recipe gluten-free? No, but that’s a problem easily solved. Simply use gluten-free bread.

How to store pizza toast? Short version? You don’t! Pizza toast should be enjoyed right away because it really doesn’t keep well. You can store it in the refrigerator for a couple of days and reheat it in the microwave, but…eh. And, no, you can not freeze this recipe!!!
