Healthy homemade tortilla chips baked to crunchy perfection and completely oil-free! Just 1 ingredient and 15 minutes are all you need.

The two loves of my life are chips and dips! Those little crunchy triangles with a huge dollop of guacamole are just about the closes thing to heaven on earth. And, until I thought they would forever be a memory.

But, a friend showed me several years ago how to make these healthy homemade tortilla chips. All you need is one ingredient, corn tortillas, and about 15 minutes of your time. I couldn’t believe how crunchy and good they were and all without frying.

These chips have just as much flavor and crunch as any greasy storebought brand. They’re super easy and cheap to make. And, completely gluten-free and oil-free.

You can use any spices you like or just a little sea salt to add flavor. But, I prefer to just slice and bake. Yes, they are that good!

These baked chips are perfect for making vegan nachos, dipping salsa, or healthy snacking when you get the munchies. They’re also great for adding some crunch to this quinoa chipotle bowl.

Ingredients You’ll Need

To say this tortilla chip recipe is easy would be an understatement. Here’s what you’ll need to make these delicious chips along with a few flavor options.

  • Whole-grain corn tortillas

I like using my Homemade Cajun Seasoning for this recipe.

Optional

  • Spices: chili powder, cumin, paprika, cayenne, garlic powder, onion powder, or sea salt are all great for adding flavor. Use a squeeze of lime juice, it not only adds flavor but helps the spices stick to the chip.
  • Brush the tortillas with a little water and maple syrup then sprinkle with cinnamon for a tasty dessert snack.

How To Make Baked Homemade Tortilla Chips

It's this easy.

  1. Preheat your oven to 375˚F and cut the chips into triangles or strips.
  2. Place them in a single layer on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  3. NOTE: If you are using any additional spices add them right before baking.
  4. Bake for 15 minutes until they're golden. If they need to bake longer just keep an eye on them because they can burn fairly quickly.
  5. Serve and enjoy with dips, veggies, or in your favorite Mexican rice bowl.

That's it! Healthy and crunchy homemade tortilla chips that are low fat and much lower in calories than anything you’ll find at the grocery store.

Air Fryer Instructions

You can very easily make these delicious tortilla chips in your air fryer. Here’s how…

  • Preheat your air fryer for 2 minutes at 370˚F.
  • Lay the sliced tortillas in a single layer in the basket and cook for 5 minutes, flipping halfway through the cooking process.

What Kind Of Tortillas Should I Use

Yellow or white corn tortillas are best for this recipe. They bake up super crunchy without using any oil and have a great flavor.

Flour tortillas do not work well for the recipe.

What To Serve With Baked Tortilla Chips

Enjoy these chips in several different ways. For a simple and healthy snack option, simply top them with chopped vegetables and some sliced avocados. But, here are a few other options perfect for parties and gatherings.

  • cashew queso
  • creamy oil-free hummus
  • vegan buffalo chicken dip
  • the best vegan spinach artichoke dip

    Hi Shane!
I love this recipe, but sometimes I have a bit of trouble if the tortillas come out of the freezer. Maybe I didn’t let them defrost enough? I tried to let them defrost entirely, but sometimes they are too hard, and sometimes they are a bit undercooked-tasting. Any suggestions?

I would take them out of the freezer and let them thaw in the fridge at least 24 hours before making the recipe.

I have made these twice now from chick pea flour tortillas and they are wonderful. I love the lime juice flavor. Tonight I am serving them with bean dip if they last that long.

These came out great! I feel like I’ve tried all sorts of baked tortilla chips over the years and they never came out right, even though they used oil. I’m so glad I tried this recipe, and now I have a quick and easy way to get a fresh batch of chips. Yum! Can’t wait to make them again.

We’ve been sad because all the tortilla chips you can buy have a lot of oil in them. We tried this recipe with lime juice and taco seasoning in the air fryer and wow! Thank you so much!! Delicious with our tempeh & veggie fajitas!!

“Met” you when I listened to podcast with Rip Esselstyn two days ago. Can’t get enough of your recipes! I want these to work! Mine were chewy. Any suggestions? (maybe my oven isn’t as hot as it says it is?)

Hey, Debbie! Nice to meet you:) I’m so glad you’re enjoying the recipes. Yes, every appliance is different but cook times can also vary. I would try increasing the heat to 375 and watching them. If they don’t look done let them cook for 1-2 minutes and check until they are done. Also, this only works with corn tortillas. Hope this hleps and let me know how everything works outs.

Hi, Phyllis. No, lard is often found in flour tortillas. Corn is usually just corn.

Not sure about calories for corn tortilla chips, Is it 186 per 1 corn tortilla or 186 per 3 corn tortillas?

Pat, a serving size is 2 tortillas with 100 calories. I’ve recently updated the recipe using 2 corn tortillas.
