Vegan Golden Milk is made with dairy-free milk, turmeric, ginger, and cinnamon. Ready in just 5 minutes, it’s sweetened with maple syrup, creamy, healthy, and delicious!
Now more than ever we need to be doing all we can to stay healthy and protect ourselves. So, a few weeks ago while working in my favorite coffee shop, Urban Grind Roasters, I noticed something new on their menu: a Turmeric Latte with the tag line, “Immune Boost.” I decided to forego my usual delicious pour-over and try it.
WOW! That’s all I can say. I’ve heard about “Golden Milk” and “Turmeric Lattes” before. But, never tried one. Boy, was I missing out! It was the perfect balance of earthy and sweet; soothing and warm; and incredibly satisfying. So, I was inspired to come home and start working on my own recipe. I LOVE vegan golden milk!!!
To say I’ve become obsessed with turmeric lattes would be an understatement. It’s my new coffee and I make no apologies. There’s no caffeine so it can be enjoyed in the morning or evening. Yet, it’s still energizing. It’s also gluten-free and filled to the brim with nutrients. Could this get any better?
If you haven’t tried vegan golden milk there’s no better time than now! It’s super easy, requires just a few simple wholesome ingredients, and is ready in less than 5 minutes! Trust me, you won’t be sorry.
Ready to enjoy your new favorite plant-based hot beverage? Let’s do it!
What Is Golden Milk
Golden Milk comes from the Ayurvedic tradition. A traditional golden milk recipe is a simple mixture of turmeric and hot milk and sometimes an extra spice or two.
Vegan golden milk uses non-dairy milk, turmeric, ginger, cinnamon, a little pepper, and is sweetened with maple syrup. Then it all gets whisked together and creates the most deliciously rich, creamy, healthy, and relaxing beverage in the world.
The best thing about vegan golden milk is how easy it is to make! There’s a good chance you already have all of the ingredients in your pantry and refrigerator.
Ingredients You’ll Need
The best thing about this recipe is there are no fancy ingredients. You’ll need the following basic ingredient for this plant-based turmeric Golden Milk recipe:
- Non-dairy milk: I used unsweetened almond milk. Oat milk and cashew milk are great as well because they’re so creamy.
- Turmeric powder: The obvious star of the show and the reason it’s called “golden milk.”
- Ginger: I used dried ginger powder because of the convenience. But, you would use fresh ginger if you prefer.
- Cinnamon: Cinnamon adds extra warmth and spice that works really well with the turmeric.
- Vanilla: For depth of flavor and sweetness to balance out the earthiness of the other spices.
- Maple Syrup: For sweetness. You could also use agave, date sugar, or honey (not vegan).
- Pepper: I know it sounds weird, but it actually serves a purpose. Turmeric contains curcumin and when paired with pepper it can boost its benefits.
How To Make Vegan Golden Milk
Vegan golden milk is perfect when you’re craving something warm and soothing. It comes together in less than 5 minutes and uses only 7 healthy and wholesome ingredients.
- To a small saucepan add all of the ingredients. Whisk everything together and warm over over medium heat for 5 minutes or until it’s hot to the touch but not boiling.
- Remove from heat, taste, and adjust for sweetness and flavor. Depending on your personal taste you may wish to add more turmeric, ginger, cinnamon, or maple syrup.
Literally, that’s it! Yes, being healthy is that easy.
This turmeric latte is creamy, comforting, mildly spicy, naturally sweetened, super healthy, and absolutely delicious.
Vegan Golden Milk Benefits
Turmeric contains curcumin which gives turmeric its yellow color and is loaded with many health benefits. Some of the most common areas are fatigue, joint pain, digestive problems, respiratory problems, and many other things.
Curcumin contains high levels of antioxidants and most research has shown it helps to reduce the risk of diseases and slow the aging process.
One of turmeric’s most studied benefits is its anti-inflammatory properties. Research has shown that turmeric reduces inflammation in the body, which can help reduce the risk of many chronic diseases.

So, BOTTOMS UP!

Thank you, Terri!!!
I’ve recently started buying $7 turmeric lattes (yikes) from my local coffee shop and thought I would try to make it at home. This recipe is so much more flavorful and delicious. I used vanilla oat milk because I was out of extract, a cinnamon stick, substituted agave for more of a classic sugar taste, and served over ice. Thank you.

That’s awesome, Priya! Love your additions.
I finally got around to making this as a warming drink after my cold walk outside. It is wonderfully delicious and quick to prepare. Got a nice foam using inly a whisk.
I will make this again.

30 seconds should be fine.

I have tried a number of different golden milk recipes. I do like golden milk but chain this is the best tasting one I’ve ever had! Thank you. Keep those recipes coming!!
Thank you so much!!!
I have some fresh turmeric and ginger. Can you tell me how to use them in place of the dried spices?
A good rule of thumb for both: 1 tablespoon freshly grated turmeric or ginger = 1 teaspoon ground turmeric. Dry will always be stronger than fresh.
I’ve made it twice now. Once with grated fresh ginger, it had a milder flavor. Very nice but I like the ease of using the ground ginger. I’ll definitely be making this again. Such a delicious way to get the benefits of turmeric. Thanks Shane!

I would think you could mix the dry ingredients (use a small amount of vanilla powder for the vanilla extract) together by doubling, tripling, or quadrupling the recipe. It would be even easier to make a dry mix and then add the milk and maple syrup to the saucepan.
★★★★★
You absolutely could.
I soaked 3 dates in warm water and then blended them with the rest of the ingredients in the blender. I also used fresh ginger. Turned out awesome and a little foamy on top!
★★★★★
Super yummy. I’ve been looking for a way to incorporate more ginger and turmeric into my diet – this is perfect! Easy and decadent. Thanks for the recipe!
★★★★★
Am sipping as I type. I used 2 tablespoons of maple syrup then added 1/8 teaspoon of cardamom. Over the top delicious!

My new go to morning drink, and it’s so easy and delicious! I put all the ingredients in my smaller Vitamix container at night then take it out of the fridge in the morning and instead of heating it on the stove I use my Vitamix and turn it on high for 5-10 minutes while I’m putting my lunch in my cooler or whatever needs doing…. pour it in my thermal cup and out the door I go with a big mug of yuminess!!! I do make a few little changes….I use fresh ginger, both cayenne and black pepper, and once in a while dates in place of the syrup! Thank you once again!!!
★★★★★
My pleasure and I LOVE the little additions…especially the cayenne. Putting that on my list of “must try.”
Yum yum yum! Just made this in my small Vitamix cup as recommended above and am sipping it as I write. It’s delicious- and SO EASY! Thank you
