    Easy Vegan Tofu Feta Cheese

    Jump to Recipe·Print Recipe

This vegan tofu feta is an excellent substitute for the classic Greek cheese. Fresh, flavorful, and perfect in salads or sandwiches, it’s nut-free and easy to make.

Cheese is one thing most vegans or those wanting to go plant-based find extremely hard to give up. But, it’s super easy to make delicious and much healthier cheese substitutes. A couple of my favorites are my Garlic Herb Vegan Cheese Spread and this Vegan Cheese Sauce.

It’s going to be like those Mediterranean dishes you once loved never left with this vegan tofu feta cheese! Whip up a delicious vegan Greek salad, throw it in a wrap, or enjoy it as a snack on some healthy crackers.

All you need to make this recipe are a few simple wholesome ingredients and a little time. This tofu feta is surprisingly similar to feta cheese made with dairy when it comes to taste and texture. And, even though it doesn’t melt like the real thing, it will more than satisfy your craving when the urge hits.

If you’ve been missing the taste of crumbled tofu over a refreshing dish like this watermelon cucumber salad or creamy pasta salad then this vegan tofu feta cheese is your dream come true.

What Type Of Tofu Should I Use

Use only firm or extra-frim tofu when making this tofu feta. Silken tofu will not work because the texture is much too soft.

    How To Press Tofu

It’s important that you press the tofu before making vegan feta cheese to get rid of the excess liquid. This will allow the tofu to absorb the flavors of the marinade much better.

The easiest way to press the tofu is by using a tofu press like this one. But, you can simply wrap the tofu in paper towels and set something heavy, like a book on top, and let it sit for 15-20 minutes.

    Herbs

I use a blend of dried oregano, basil, and parsley to season this recipe. But, oregano alone will work.

If you are using fresh herbs be sure and double the amount.

    ingredients

    Tofu Feta Ingredients

    • Tofu: use only firm or extra-firm tofu for the base of the cheese.
    • Red Wine Vinegar: any vinegar will work and ultimately is up to you. I prefer the taste of red wine vinegar because of the “bite.”
    • Lemon Juice: adds brightness and tangy flavor to the marinade.
    • Nutritional Yeast: cheesy flavor.
    • Seasoning: oregano, basil, and parsley (Italian seasoning). But, you could also just use oregano.
    • Onion Powder: for flavor.
    • Garlic Powder: helps to brighten the flavor in low-sodium dishes.
    • Optional: salt and black pepper may be added to suit your taste.

    How To Make Tofu Feta

    1. Press the tofu for 20 minutes using a tofu press or by wrapping it in a clean towel and placing a heavy object, like a book, on top.
    2. Cut the tofu into 1″ cubes.
    3. Mix together the marinade ingredients and add to a small or medium bowl with the tofu. Cover and place in the fridge for at least 20 minutes, but 24-48 hours is best. It will add more flavor.
    4. Enjoy!

    Serving Suggestions

You can use this vegan tofu feta as you would regular feta cheese. It’s excellent in salads, zucchini noodles with pesto, and even on burgers. It’s also great as an appetizer or on a party tray.

And, even though it doesn’t melt you add it to your favorite vegan pizza as a topping.

How Long Does Tofu Feta Last

Vegan tofu feta can store in the refrigerator for up to 7 days in an airtight container. If you plan on letting the feta marinate for a day or two be sure and take that into consideration.

Vegan tofu feta does not freeze well. So, I wouldn’t recommend it.
