We all need a little treat every now and then to get us through the day. I like my afternoon nom noms when I’m blogging. So, I always like having a snack somewhere within arm’s reach as well all do.
The danger is sometimes we, including me, reach for the quick option and not necessarily the healthy option. (Yes, yes, yes, I am guilty of this…a lot!)
That’s why I wanted to put together a list of healthy vegan snacks that are simple, quick, and promote a wholesome lifestyle.
You’ll find a delicious selection of sweet and savory health plant-based snack recipes. These recipes are excellent examples you don’t have to sacrifice taste or flavor just because something is good for you.
Are Vegan Snacks Healthy?
The simplest answer to this question is “yes” and “no.” Now that being or eating vegan is way more mainstream than it used to be, there’s no shortage of products in your local grocery store.
You can find everything from vegan butter, cheese, meat, cookies, and pretty much anything else you desire. Sadly, this does not translate to healthy and even products labeled as “plant-based” can no longer simply be taken at face value.
If you read the ingredients most of these products contain just as many chemical and artificial sweeteners as their animal product counterparts.
So, back to the original question, are vegan snacks healthy? It all depends on what is in the snack and just as importantly, what’s not in the snack. The recipes you are going to find in this amazing list are healthy and use only whole-food, plant-based ingredients. They’re oil-free, dairy-free, and most are gluten-free.
It is important to remember that even though these are healthy snacks they should never take the place of eating a completely plant-based diet. Because you can still overeat and gain weight by snacking.
You should always look at snacking as a bridge or means to an end to satisfy a temporary craving, not a meal replacement. And, you should never think just because something is “healthy”, like avocados, that means you can eat twenty of them and not suffer any repercussions.
Enjoy snacks and remember they’re just that, snacks. Just don’t make every day or every meal a snack.
Vegan Snack Ideas
If you are in a rush and don’t have time to make something there are always healthier plant-based snack options. Sometimes, it’s not about a certain food when it comes to snacking but just a quick bite on something.
Here are some of our favorite options we try and always keep on hand:
- Fruit: apples, bananas, peaches, plums, grapes
- Veggies: celery, carrots, radishes, cucumbers, bell pepper
