“Goddess” is a word that is normally reserved only for my wife. But, in this case, I will have to make an exception. This Avocado Green Goddess Dressing is FREAKING AWESOME!
Years ago before going vegan and fell in love with Green Goddess Dressing. But, after going plant-based I could never find a vegan version without all of the oil and crap. Trader Joe’s was my favorite but still, there was the olive oil.
My mission quickly shifted to making a homemade version that was healthy but didn’t suck. Was it possible? Could I make it healthy and still keep it delicious? Well, I did make a pretty awesome ranch dressing that will rock your world! So, yes, I knew it was possible.
This creamy avocado dressing is the result! It’s bright, full of fresh herbs, tangy, full of flavor, and yes, CREAMY! It’s also healthy. It’s extremely low in fat and calories compared to all the other versions.
So get busy enjoying it on your favorite salads, sandwiches, a dip for raw veggies, or a sauce on top of delicious grain bowls. There is no wrong way!

What is avocado green goddess dressing?
Regular green goddess dressing usually contains ingredients such as mayonnaise, greek yogurt, sour cream, anchovy, olive oil, and other not-so-great ingredients.
It was supposedly created by a chef at the Palace Hotel in San Francisco in the early 1920s for actor George Arliss and his hit play, The Green Goddess. Who knows if that’s true but let’s just go with it.
As you might imagine my version of this popular salad dressing doesn’t contain any of those horrible things😁. Avocado is the rock star in this recipe because it allows you to keep it dairy-free without losing the creamy texture. But, there’s more.
Fresh herbs add the earthiness. Lemon juice and apple cider vinegar for brightness. Garlic gives you that savory essence. From there you just blend and you’ve got the most delicious green goddess salad dressing. Yes, it’s that easy.
Ingredients you’ll need
Here’s all you need to make your own healthy green goddess dressing.
- avocados
- garlic
- fresh parsley and basil
- green onions
- apple cider vinegar and lemon juice
- salt and pepper to taste
How to make avocado green goddess dressing
This simple, delicious dressing comes together in about 5 minutes from start to finish. You simply blend, serve, and enjoy!
- Peel the garlic, toss it in the food processor, and blend until the garlic is finely chopped. It’s ok if it spreads out around the sides of the food processor.
- Add all of the remaining ingredients and blend until it is smooth and creamy with very few to no lumps. Taste, season with salt and pepper if desired, and blend again if needed.
- Serve immediately or store in the fridge in a jar or an airtight container for up to 5 days.
NOTE: If you don’t have a food processor you can use your blender. You may have to stop and scrape a little more, but you’ll still get a great result.
Substitutions
Depending on your taste you can adjust flavors and texture with these additions:
- herbs: herbs such as tarragon, cilantro, fresh mint, and dill are some of my favorites.
- vegan mayo and sour cream: for extra creaminess and texture try adding some of my cashew mayo or vegan sour cream.
- lime juice: if you don’t have lemon juice, lime juice is an excellent alternative.
- chives: sometimes I like to add chives instead of green onions. Why? I just do.
Storage
Avocado green goddess dressing is excellent for meal prepping if you don’t plan on enjoying it immediately. It can be stored in a glass jar or small airtight container in the fridge for up to 5 days.
What’s the best way to enjoy Avocado Green Goddess Dressing?
Avocado green goddess dressing is not just for salads. It’s perfect as a dressing, sauce, or dip! Replace the vegan mayo in pasta salad, use it as a sauce on grain bowls, or put it on your party platter as a dip.

You call for a large avocado: do you mean a large Haas or a large Florida avocado? These are two very different sizes.
Shane Martin
Use a Haas…not one of those weird light green ones.
